Brother in law and I went down to Spring Canyon to fish off the bank trying to catch some big bows. We arrived at 6:40 into the parking lot, it was still dark. At 7 it got light enough to fish, and we walked down the shore towards the dam to the second point sticking out. It's a real sandy beach with a slight drop off, so we were just hoping to get our bait out. We had lines in the water at 7:20 with an ounce and a half of lead on a swivel with 2' of leader. We were both using green mallows and a worm with mikes scent. At 7:30, my brother in law pulled his first in, a chunky 15" bow. He was fat. Right on we thought, should be a great day. I then got bumped pretty good, but no hookup. An hour later, brother in law pulled in another, a 13 inch bow, quite a bit smaller. All right, 2 in one hour, this should be a good day, if we keep this up, I thought.
That was the last fish of the day. We moved, switched baits. Threw the tackle box at 'em. Nothing.
Next time down, we're going to explore the upriver side of the launch. Shoreline looks fairly steep, and it looks like there may be some more depth out that way.
