Took a friend up to Roosevelt yesterday to share my birthday with on the water. We launched at Seven Bays about 11am and headed downstream from Lincoln. We spent the whole outing in that area.
We always have a friendly wager on who will catch the first fish, and my friend usually does, but not yesterday. I put the first in the cooler, and followed that with a real beauty, a 21 1/4", 3 1/2lb native rainbow.
We retained 8 really nice rainbow along with two standouts, my friend with a 19" 2lb, 10oz carryover 'bow and me with the native. It was a great way to spend my birthday!
All fish came on leaded line out 150' (roughly 3 1/2 colors) with either a Trick R Treat Frisky Jenny or a Kekeda. The orange Kekeda accounted for big native in the cooler (thanks Dave!). We were tipping the trailer trebles with bait, my friend using grubs and I was using chunks of worm. I also pulled a Rip'n Minnow at 195' back and it wasn't touched all day.
We drift trolled with the wind and speeds were 2.8 - 3.5mph. Water surface temp hovered between 39.9° - 40.2°. It was overcast part of the day, but sunny at one end of our drift/troll. The ride up was foggy all the way until we dropped down near the cutoff road. Unfortunately, the fog was a lot heavier on the return trip necessitating slow and careful driving.
