Finally was able to get son in law and grandson out to Roosevelt for some of the great fall/winter trout fishing. Left Spokane at 7:00 am and drove down on great roads. Only frost was in shaded areas on the way down. Decided to launch at Seven Bays since we did very well just upriver a week ago. When we came over the hill, where you could see the lake, you could also see the rough water! Put the boat in and motored out to the open water; wow big waves. Grandson was really glad for the top with the heater going when a big wave splashed all over his side on the curtain. He would have really gotten wet without the top!!

Moved upstream to the Spokane confluence to get out of the wind and began trolling about 9:00. Started with orange belly size 10 Rapala, gold colored Rippin Minnow, Lenny Special fly and a Trick r Treat (they were on the poles already). First fish on the Lenny. Fished three colors lead line and 18' on the wire. Fishing was steady until we got out in the wind down by Two Rivers and the boat got crossways. You know what happened then.....no bites, pulled gear in and it was all tangled; yuck too much fun!

Got untangled and went back to catching fish. Put on an orange Kekeda fly (Thanks Dave) and caught some fish on it too. Hot lure for the day was the Rapala and Frisky Jenny Trick r Treat. The fish seemed to like the Salmon Scent from Northwest Baits with their lures today trolled at 2.6 mph.

Caught our limits of fat rainbows by 2:00. What a great day out in the sunshine with grandson and his dad. Guess we're spoiling our grandson.......oh well it's all good; very good!!

Tight lines everybody and remember the water is cold, very cold. Be safe - Alan

Very nice report Alan and even better that you're taking your grand son. I hope to do the same some day in the future. The past few days have been very sunny, I'll bet it was real comfortable inside with the heat on! :-)

My grandson loved the heat! Seems he wanted to stay inside and drive the boat for gramps; nice to have a good helper on board. The fish came at a pace that allowed some inside time to get warm and drink coffee. Grandson would give up his duties as driver to reel in a fish though; can you imagine that? What a great way to start 2014.

What an awesome day! Doesn't sound like it gets much better than that. I'm glad the Kekeda fly worked for you. Unfortunately we didn't make it out Sunday. I guess we'll just have to plan a trip again soon to make up for it. Take care.
