Didnt get on the water till around 11am.Launched above McNary dam on the Oregon side.In the span of about 15 minutes I was checked by 2 sheriff deputies, and an Oregon trooper. Not to mention there was a couple of guys out in a jet boat watching people with binos.Come on at least put a rod in the water and make it look like your fishing.Again this morning my buddy Gary came along for the ride really had to twist his arm.I pulled a regular size red herringbone wiggle wart all day,and Gary switched around.Right away I had a take down that came unbuttoned about 3 seconds after I set the hook.I had several bumps from behind during the day.One fish even whacked it a second time. Finally around 5pm I had my rod burry again this time I brought in a small wild steely that was easily released.Gary finally says all right give me one of those plugs, and about 45 minutes later he put a 11 lb coho in the net.I bet next time he has red herringbone plugs in his box before we go.

Hook em good

Couldn't help but notice that you have a decent amount of take downs but have quite a few fish get off the hook fairly early in battle. Half the battle is getting the fish to bite, the other half is making the most out of the opportunity. I used to have the same problem you seem to have. I decided to fight the battle smarter, with the best gear I could afford. I started off by replacing the stock VMC hooks on my wiggle warts with Owner hooks. Hold the factory hook up next to an upgraded hook and look at the difference, feel the difference, sharpness, diameter differences. Try tweaking the angle of the hooks by bending em just a small amount at the tail end of the curve before the barb. Made a huge difference for me, even on stock hooks. Another thing to try if you aren't using it already is the braided tuff line's. Many different brands and characteristics, but the 30 to 50 lbs tests that have the diameter of 10 or 12lb monofilament and near zero stretch... That's what I get em with. And lastly.... If you can get them to strike at a slightly higher speed, by all means do so. Sometimes those wimpy bites are coming from fish that aren't ticked off enough. They half ass hit at em instead. I surprised myself and hundreds of other anglers when I trolled my plug downstream at a speed that I was too fast for my lure to track straight and true. The results of my wiggle wart bouncing off the bottom and going sideways every now and again, three down stream trolls less than 150 yards each produced Two spring Chinook with the hooks buried deep in the mouth and One steelhead hooked from the outside in. That was on the Willamette River in Oregon City but Three fish in a row over the same area in less than 15 minutes. It sure caught the attention of all the guys that were anchored up or back trollin'. Rip it past em fast once in a while, they wont have time to follow it or examine it. They'll just hit it... viciously. Good Luck
