Made the trip over to Brewster Pool on Thursday and fished the afternoon. Very hot out. Managed to catch 3 sockeye, one of which was a nice 22 inch fish. Stayed in Pateros at the Lake Pateros Motor Inn. Tied the boat up to their dock. Got up Friday morning at 0 dark thirty and made the 15 minute run from the motel dock to the Brewster pool. Lots of boats on the water but everyone was courteous and accommodating. Started fishing at first legal light. Caught 4 more sockeye and were done by 8:30 AM. Overall we lost 1 fish for every two caught (combination of barbless hooks and soft mouthed sockeye). We fished from downriggers from 15 to 18 feet deep. Set up was a 00 dodger and a pink Macks sockeye rig with silver smile blade and a small piece of cured prawn. Leader length between the dodger and hootchie is critical - 14 to 16 inches. Also caught one fish on a home made "rasticle" but the Macks hootchie was the hot ticket. Fishing success around us was similar to what we experienced. Certainly not red hot sockeye fishing but we had a great time and brought home 7 nice sockeye two of which were nice size fish.
