Another great weekend on Roosevelt. Launched at Two Rivers Fri night and stayed at the marina. Got an early start and were at White Rock (Stone) with our lines in the water by 7:30. We fished Rippin Minnows on mono at 150' - 200' and a perch fly (Lenny Special) on 3 colors of led. By 10:00 we had 15 fish to the boat. Only one carry-over at about 19", the rest were this year's releases. After 10, the bite died and for the remainder of the day, we boated only 7. (we only kept about 12 for the smoker and eating, the rest was catch and release)
The highlight of the day was the Bald Eagle. One of our early fish didn't fair well on the release so an eagle swooped and plucked it from the water just behind the boat! From then on, every fish was check out by at least 2 eagles with one swooping in for a grab, talons hit the water but missed the fish, 20 feet behind the boat with the fish still on our line.
Another bit of wildlife was at the marina. An otter family has found its way into one of the net pens. Two otters were seen leaving the pen closest to the gas dock with fish in their mouth.
Day two of our trip was a different story. We headed up to Split Rock. We were not into the fish until about 10:00 and then for about two hours it was fairly consistant. Rippin Minnow on the downrigger at 20' was the ticket. We would get hits and lost quite a few so we boated only 12 on Sunday. Great weekend and will be headed back next week to try again. Good fishing.
