I got a chance to hook up with my best friend and brother Roger Mineard aka "Pacbassman" of Yakima to head down and do some Labor day weekend steelhead fishing. It's been a tough year for me for steelies so I was hoping Rog could spin some of his special "Majic shrimp mojo" and put a few keepers in the boat. The wind was howling down along the Columbia Gorge, so putting in my 10 foot Jon boat seemed rather daunting. Underwood looked thrashed by the dam removal upstream and Drano was really over run with boats. But we decided to hit both the Drano and later, the Wind to try our luck. The morning bite never really materialized. It took a while to develope as we spent the first 5 hours on Drano without a bite or take down. We ended up moving, relaunching and after lunch, I was able to use my boat's electronics to locate some steelies. Once we got the proper depth dialed in, Roger started catching some nice fish! His first wild hen had to of weighed 13 or 14 pounds. Rog had the hot fishing rod and caught 2 wild fish and two Hatchery keepers over 10 lbs. Before we left for home, I finally got my only bite of the day which was a decent keeper fish about 5 pounds. The bite down there at Drano and the Wind River has been tough by most accounts. We used our time on the water to locate fish and tweak our bait presentations to put some nice keepers in the boat. Persistance really paid off! Tight lines brothers. Jiggy
