Had another great trip to Brewster Sat. morning fishing primarily for sockeye, but we did manage to pick up a12# chinook as well. Even though the salmon derby was going on this weekend, much less boats vs last Saturday. Had our limits by about 1:30 pm, but had to work much harder for the fish. Fish still seem to be in great shape with new schools of fish moving in all the time.

Nice catch with a bonus fish. Did you launch the the town of Brewster and what area did you fish. I have a small slow boat and was in the area thinking of giving it a try.

@Id,,,,Small boats can launch at the dirt (4whl drive required) launch just a few hundred yards upstream of the Hwy 97 bridge as it crosses the mouth of the Okanogan riv (turn left just before bridge). Then its an easy motor down to the mouth for fishing.

Idstud: This is a new fishery to me and we normally launch at the public and free boat launch in Brewster. It's then about a 2 mile ride to get to the fishing grounds. I have heard of a launch near the mouth of the Okanogan river but yet to try i?t myself. I do see a few smaller boats in the 12 foot range with small motors fishing without any trouble but I am unsure where they're launching.

I goofed up. I dodged the crowd at Brewster and fished right above Wells Dam. I fished hard and long for only one fish. Thanks for the report.

It looks like some of your fish are in the 5 lb. range. Or is that one really small? What did your biggest Sockeye weigh? Thanks in advance Andy

afk: I'm not sure what any of the sockeye weigh since I haven't brought a scale along, but I would guess the larger ones are around 4-5 pounds. The king was right at 12 # as it was set on a pretty accurate digital scale they used for the salmon derby.
