Just had to get out of town for some time on the water, even though fishing has been slow at our favorite place to wet a line.

Launched from Seven Bays at 7:40 and had lines in the water in the San Poil by 8:05. Trolled for about an hour and a half before I had huge takedown. After a 15 minute battle, Debbie slid the net under my new personal best trout from Roosevelt, a 4lb, 7 oz native. Woo Hoo!

Trolled back around to the same spot and hooked another about an hour later. After a 10 minute battle to the boat, and as Debbie was about to slip the net under, it spit the plug and swam off to fight another day. Would have been easily 2 1/2 - 3lbs too. Oh well, hooked fought, and got to see it at the boat. That's almost caught. ;-)

No action for the next hour or so so and the dog decided it was time for a shore break, so a quick stop and then we motored on to downstream of Sterling Point. Gear in the water, lunch in the boat, just enjoying life. Took more than an hour to troll up past Sterling Point, and we discussed a game plan for our last hour before heading for home. Decided to swing toward the rocks above Sterling Point and Debbie yells "Fish On"!

After a 20 minute battle, I was finally able to net a nice 3lb, 8oz rainbow and we decided that was a good way to end the day. :-)

The only thing they were interested in today were long lined, perch colored Rip'n Minnows trolled at 1.8mph 205' behind the boat. I tried several combinations of flies/worms on the leaded line, but to no avail.

Water surface temp was 45.7°, winds were calm in the morning, but breezy in the afternoon.

Nice looking fish!!!! I knew that not all of the big ones could have went to Rufus!!

My experience this season has been all better quality fish although fewer of them. When I think of the quick limits of 15" - 17" fish a couple years ago compared to now, I'd rather have fewer more quality fish. Doesn't take as many to load the smoker either. :-)

Before reading my first Roosevelt report. I knew little about the species and size fish one can catch in Roosevelt. But now, I pay attention and look for Roosevelt reports. This report is the reason why.

I know it is not in your report. But were you using the lonnnnnng drop back method as always? Thanks for the report.

It's there MotoBoat, right at the end of the report, "The only thing they were interested in today were long lined, perch colored Rip'n Minnows trolled at 1.8mph 205' behind the boat." So, yes, long lined mono was the ticket Saturday. The only info I didn't provide was how far back we were with the leaded line rigs, 155', (in hindsight should have been about 100' - 120') but they didn't produce for us.

I have no secrets at Roosevelt, and will always share my technique with fellow anglers. PM me anytime you want specific info. Good fishing! :-)
