Hi Guys,
Well, made a trip down to Keller Ferry this morning with Gary Scheinost from Nine Mile Falls. Gary is a famed clay shooter from this area and likes to fish Rosie in the winter. I informed him that the reports coming in weren't good, but we would give it a try. Left Spokane at 5:30am, pulled in to Creston to have breakfast and get the lastest fishing report from Blake at the cafe. Blake yelled from the kitchen and said the fishing had been horrible. We had the fisherman's breakfast, topped off the coffee and headed down to Keller Ferry boat launch. Only one rig in the parking lot, I told Gary this dosen't look good. We hit the water at 9:00am and headed up the river towards Sterling point. We rigged up a perch pattern streamer fly behind 3 colors of leaded line and ran a broken back orange Rapala on mono 150 feet back at 2-2.4 mph. We started picking up some nice fish right away and were surprised with the action we were getting! Most of the fish were net pen hatchery fish, only two natives. It turned out to be a great day of fishing after what we thought would be a tough day on the lake. During the day we had a Navy F-18 Hornet, Bald Eagles and flights of geese soaring over our heads. We cleaned our fish and saw their stomachs were filled with plankton. With 2 limits of fish, it was time to head back to the launch. Rosie is not on fire like it was at this time last year, but there are still some nice fish to be had.
