Went out with my buddy Jay on his Thunderjet last Saturday. We launched out of Ft Spokane and headed to Casino Flats. We were only there a few minutes when the wind picked up from the south and the whitecaps soon followed. So we headed to Hawk Creek to get out of the wind. Went up the creek, near the two buoys, and started pitching jigs. I rated the day a 2 for Walleyes because we only caught 3, one was 18" and the other two were dinks of about 15". I personally don't keep any smaller than 16". Now if I had been fishing for Burbot from the beginning I would have rated the day a 5. We boated 19 Burbot ranging in weight from 2-5lbs. I caught 12 and Jay caught 7. Didn't seem to matter what color jig or soft plastic we were using and according to my buddy Jay I am the Burbot King. We caught them from 35-55'. Water temp was 43-46 deg with at least 15' of visibility
Them burbot are what Fred Sanford would call ''Aunt Ester Fish" namely U-G-L-Y! but hella good baked with lemon butter and scallions. Nice to see you picked up some wally gators. Were you using skirt jigs or grubs? Jiggy
I was using soft plastic shad type bodies, mostly in a perch pattern. I was specifically using 4" baits trying to entice larger fish. Just didn't expect those to be Burbot. I rarely use night crawlers anymore to tip my jigs. It seems to help keep the dinks off. The Burbot had no problem grabbing the larger bait.
