After so many weekends where we couldn't go due to commitments of some kind or other, we finally had an open weekend, so off to Roosevelt we went. The wind forecast was not good, but we had no real issues getting there.
As we headed out of Seven Bays, we ran into the wind and whitecaps. Once we rounded the bend near Lincoln, they settled down and I dropped gear. We started with a pair of Frisky Jenny Trick R Treat streamers as they were bright orane and the water was quite stained and muddy looking. Sent the streamers out 155' on leaded line. On the long line rigs, I sent a Ripn Minnow in silver/orange to the depths and the other had a bright orange Rapala F7. Both went out 225'.
Had first fish on in less the 10 minutes, but to my surprise it was a walleye that ate my streamer! Nice chunky 18" male that weighed 1 1/2lbs.
My wife caught the next one and it was a chunky 16" bow that also ran 1 1/2lbs. We caught 2 more nice bows, one of which was a native. That one was 2lbs, 13ozs the largest for the day.
The wind was the big factor in today's outing. The fishing wasn't fast and furious, but it was consistent. The wind however, forced us to call the day short and is the reason I rated it a "3".
We were on the water 4 hours and had 4 nice fish for our efforts despite difficulty maintaining boat control. Both my ladies were happy to be off the water today. :-)
