Hit spokane arm on sat early. fished first three hours deep 40-50 even went as far as 60-70. with no luck. water looked like hersey surup. No one was having any luck in arm after a few hours their was not a boat in site. After a little R&D we figured it out. The fish were in shallow water. Ya who would of thought? we never fished over 15ft the rest of the day catching around 40-50 fish who counting. awesome day still have to download pic off of phone. everything we caught were small with a handfull around 18". I think that the water is so stained that the fish are not affected by the light.and are in very shollow feeding. we even caught a few ling cod. ya thats right ling cod, in the middle of the day in less than 15' of water. Not much time left till the arm is shut down but if your heading down in the next couple days its on in the arm. AND TO THE JACKWAGON WHO BACKED OVER MY TRAILER AND BUSTED OFF MY LIGHT AT FT. SPOKANE BOAT LAUNCH. THANKS A LOT. YOU ARE A REAL SPORTSMAN!!!!!!!!

JJ, We were in the spokane on saturday am as well for about an hour and a half. I hate fishing muddy water. We never got one bite in there so we moved out into Roosevelt and ran down past Lincoln. We found walleyes in 30 feet of water in about three diffrent spots. We were drifting 30feet when we floated over a rocky bar that came up to about 5 feet quite a ways out from shore. As we drifted over the opposite side we were hooking some nice fat rainbows on the jig and drop shot setup. The rainbows were loving the black and white gulp minnows. Trout were about 18" and real fat. The wallys were up to about 19 or 20 inches. No big ones though. I guess we should have tried the real shallow water. Would have never guessed it for this time of yesr. Happy fishing

what were you using? I'm sure the reason you caught the walleye in shallower water was that if you look at the spring run offs in reservoirs the stain doesn't reach the bottom. Walleye love to ambush in murky water and are good at it because they have very sensitive lateral lines that pickup the slightest displacement in the water. They can actually "feel" an 1/8 oz jig in the water. You will do really well using "noisy" blade baits with worm harness. So by moving to shallower water you are actually presenting your bait in the murk. The chocolate milk layer only extends, maybe 20 feet down. Deeper than that and it is clear, which is not ideal for a hungry walleye. And one more thing, the small fish are the males staging for the spawn. You would catch the much larger females when they move into the arm to spawn. That is why they close the arm up to harvesting these big gals. thanks for the report, sounds like you had a rewarding day on the water.
