Today was my long awaited trip with my good friend and fishing mentor Bluefin Louie down on Rufus Woods Lake to fish for Triploid trout. After meeting him up at big Walley's on Banks Lake we drove down to Seaton's Grove boat launch on the lower river and launched his Bluefin V hull and headed down river for the net pens. We saw bald eagles and lots of mule deer all along the shoreline during the trip. We pulled up to the 2nd set of net pens and proceeded to probe the edges with Louie's favorite Triploid jigs. Oddly, the bank anlers weren't having much luck at all and there were no other boats out and about. Then Lewis made a fateful descision to move to another spot..with awesome results! From the very first cast, Lewis put on a jigging clinic... "Fish on!" "There he is!" Haaa...another one! " over and over he shouted. I finally hooked into a 17" trout. and got the monkey off of my back when my consecutive "fish per trip caught" streak was left in tact! We both alternated between 1/8th and 1/16th oz. jigs, Rootbeer colored B-2 squids and I introduced Mr. Lewis to my favorite big trout lure, a Lunker City 3" Brown Bug helgramite jig, with wich I was able to hook 6 fish on six casts. After 4 hours, 19 fish were caugh and released, with 3 keepers put in the live well, Then the river saved the best for last... I set my 7' 6" ultralite hard on a sudden strike and the fight was on! That fish was heavy, stout and determined to break my line. My drag squealed as Lewis tried to unwrap my 6lb izor line from around the trolling motor! Finally, after a solid 5 minute tussel, he netted my last fish of the day, ( a solid 7 pound Rufus Woods Triploid.) Maybe not as big as some caught down there, but a nice end to an awesome day of non stop fish catching action. Bluefin Louie will post pictures of this trip on his next 1/09/2011 Rufus Woods Wa. Lakes post. Later, Jiggy
