Second day of a 3 day trip. Had a fourth man along today, and hoped to show him some good winter Roosevelt rainbow fishing. But it wasn't to be. The big storm that passed through, now turned to single digit, windy skies. Again we tried all the Roosy poisons, similar to what all of us do. We even tried some pretty odd stuff. Still to no avail. And, our normal ace-in-the-hole (boards) didn't even help much. We ended up with 4 rainbows for 4 men. We put in at Spring Canyon, and tried numerous spots all the way up to the Sanpoil. Near the end of the day, we decided to hit some walleye spots. Our 4th man was quite gracious with some of his local walleye knowledge....sure wish we could have reciprocated with rainbow knowledge but we were stumped. It was quite cold, which limited hands-on-the-rod time for walleye fishing, and very windy, which made boat control extremely difficult at best (but our Gator-Bomber did a fine job!) I hooked one fish at 107 feet on a spinner and crawler.....a 2 pound smallmouth! Unbelievable. No walleye. Air temps were probably in the teens. Winds steady out of the north, probably up to 20 at times. Water temps around 42 ... quite warm for this time of year. The front passing through gave us fits. That's our story and we're stickin' to it!
