Fished Wanapum again for a couple of days. Only manged to find fish on the rocks at the west approach to the I-90 bridge. Surface temperatures averaged around 67 to 68. Tried the old roadbed just north of the bridge but no luck despite throwing everything in the boat at them. Only one real promising bite came just on the south side of I-90. We were fishing the calmer water just around the corner from the bridge and out of the major current when half way back to the boat I got the fist bite in 3 hours. Fish missed but immediately hit again and the rod loaded up. I attempted to set the hook as the fish broke water, it was a huge bass. It was within 5 feet of the boat and I could tell it was at least 4lbs if it was an ounce. It spit the lure and was gone, DANG! Most all fish were caught on a 3" Rapala deep diving craw and within about 10 feet of the rocks. One caught on a Yamamoto grub. I'm starting to think the better fishing is prone to be much further north on this lake. Just haven't fished it enough to figure much out.
