1st year fly fishing, had a friend of mine show me his spot up above Northport on the Columbia. I've heard a lot of good things about fly fishing this part of the river and was excited to see it for myself. Arrived around 7pm and checked out the rocks on the shore. I had a rough time casting around the obstacles behind me, including an 8 mo old black lab pup that had a good time jumping up and catching my line out of the air. I got to see the fish moving around and surfacing, which I have never witnessed before, and watched my buddy catch a few. Very cool to see it in person. After having to clip my fly to untangle, I found out it is very hard to tie a fly on in the dark with no light. As we were leaving saw some fish come in near us and told my buddy to cast and I stood above spotting for him. He got another dinker, and it was neat to see how things work up there. Definately will be back soon, and will be bringing a clip light as it seems the bite picks up when the sun goes down.
