We went up to Rufus to work on some technique. We snicked a fish of the "can line" near the dam on a cone head muddler, but it was slow. We trolled a few other areas near the pump stations as the weather built up. No action on a variety of flies and spinners. We decided to go to the lower pens to refine some jig and bobber technique. The water temp was 43, the wind was blowing uplake at 15mph. There was very little current, being a Sunday. Our drift was uplake against the flow of the river! It took a while but we got a bite going. Pink seemed to be the color de jour. Slip Bobber about 10 feet down and fish water off the slopes from 25 to 50 feet deep. We did get bit on plain jigs, but finished our limits on jigs tipped with home cured eggs. Pautzke's Fire cure got the job done. It was pretty good fishing for difficult conditions.
