We worked for our Steelhead today. Running and gunning was the order of the day. We hit holes and runs virtually all along the stretch from just above Wells Dam to Chief Joseph. Red glitter jigs under bobbers baited with purple shrimp was most successful. Altogether we boated four hatchery fish and released 3 wild ones. Aside from that, there were 3 more lost fish and 7 or 8 missed bites. The depths that we slipped the bobbers from ranged from 4 to 17 feet. Six to 10 feet down produced the majority of the bites. Areas around big boulders and current breaks are the features to key in on. Keeping the slack out on the drifts and getting solid and quick hooksets are the keys to this kind of fishing.
