Second time within 3 days fishn for wallies on the Spokane finger. Set out from Spokane this morning in the snow which turned to rain. While chilly most of the day the weather did cooperate with only a slight drizzle in the morning. Temp was in the thirties most of the day and the winds varied from 0 - 7 out of the NW.

Fishing on both days (Sunday and Wed.) was steady but not spectacular. Sunday we had two boats each with three anglers. 1 boat limited out by 3:30pm and the second came close. The fish were mostly under 14" and we did boat one about 17". Today I set out alone and hit the water about 9:30AM. Had the first fish in 10 minutes and six by t4:00PM. The fish were bigger today but nothing over 16"

I used jigs bounced VERY, VERY slowly along the bottom. Some times a little action was required to get the fish to act. Sometimes I used no action other than the texture of the lake bottom. When fishing using the lake texture technique I found it best to let the fish hit the bait and not set the hook right away. Cant tell you how many fish I did not catch because I reacted too fast. Give the fish some time because its probably just nipping at it. So let your rod relax and point it back toward the bait after the strike and take up the slack without disturbing the bait. The fish will most likely come back to the bait and when he does set the hooooook!

I found success with black and green chartruse jigs. I tie my own jigs and have found that just tying the fly with body on the collar of the jig with no tail is very effective. I also feel that polar chenille works well for the body. Polar chenille can be purchased in any fly shop and almost in any color. I tip the hook with a piece of worm. But have had success without the worm as well.

Be ready for the strike the hits are soft.

Now go catch some fish! Good luck!

Can you help a guy who is new to the area...where did you put in at...and what type of structure do you look for when finding Walleye on the Spokane arm?

Excellent report! Would you be able to post a photo of one of your own-tied jigs?
