This is a fishing report for Sat and Sun. It was cool (crisp) but sunny and calm winds for our trip to visit the Cabin By The River and the Rufus Woods fish pens. Aaron brought his boat, which was great because it's brand new and needed some good fish blood stains, LOL. The Cabin is a great place for anglers (or hunters) to visit. It's comfortable and has everything you would need for a fishing trip place to stay. The boat launch was a LOT better than I would have expected, too. As to the fishing - well, it was kind of tough. That said, we managed to catch around 18 pounds of fish on Saturday. And that was just 4 fish, smallest being I think 3 lb 10oz, biggest was Andrew's 6lb 10oz beast, his personal best. We caught 3 of 4 trolling mainly black wooley buggers. Andrew's was on a black spinner I believe. The 4th came on a sinking fly line which I had a small hook and (sorry about this all you fly guys out there) a power bait pellet. I know, the shame, the shame! But I was desperate for a fish and hey, it was pretty fun to catch a 4+ lb RB on a fly rod. Sunday was the strike out day. High point of the morning was meeting Blufin Loui and his wife Cindy, WL.com members, and watching them put on a clinic on hard to catch non-biting net pen rainbows (which they seemed to be able to get to bite just fine!). In any case, a very nice weekend of fishing. Now that I've been there I can first hand recommend the Cabin By The River as a place to stay, and best of all, it's just 4 miles from the pens with your own private launch.
