We were camping at Lincoln Rock for 4 nights. The weather was great calm conditions, sunny and warm. We didn't try fishing on Saturday as the kids wanted to tube and play. Sunday came and it was our turn to play (fish). We fished near Turtle Island in the current at 30 feet deep. We trolled bottom bouncers with a spinner and crawler. We caught several pike minnows and then my fishing partner hooked into a big one (first thought it was a snag). As he was bringing up that bad boy I could see the walleye at 12 feet down (the water was very clear) then he peelled out drag and went back to the bottom. After drifting a ways he finally got it to the boat and I netted a 7.2 lb 26.5 inch walleye. Wow I couldn't believe the size. I have fished for walleye in the midwest and Canada and this fish was the largest I have seen.
We fished again after supper and all we got were pike minnows.
Day 2 of fishing. We hit the same area only we were south a couple hundred yards. We were using spinners and bouncers again but in different colors. I dropped mine in and began watching the graph to get to 25 feet. My partner didn't even get his line in the water and bang I thought I had a snag Oh no thats not a snag it's a very large fish!! He was peelling out line like crazy. Now I was excited after my partner had caught a big walleye the day before and I knew it was my turn. I killed the trolling motor and and let the rod do the work. Next thing you know that fish was headed up current. We now had to pull the trolling motor up and bring my rod around to the other side of the boat. By now I was so excited but the fish still wouldn't come up. After a time I was able to work him up and we netted a 9.1 lb 31inch Walleye. I think I was just standing there shaking. I have caught many 3 lb walleyes but this thing was huge!! See the photo for proof. My 7 year old also caught a nice smallmouth off the docks. What an awesome trip!
