Spent the weekend at Seven Bays. We intended to target trout and walleye, but neither were cooperating, After a fishless day Friday, and an almost fishless day Saturday, we changed our target species to smallmouth bass and headed for a known "hotspot". We weren't in the spot 10 minutes before my wife hooked onto a nice one, and before I really had a chance to start working my crankbait she put another one in the cooler. Her streak ended there as I put the next four in the cooler. We had a 5pm dinner date, so we had to quit early and head back to the launch.
We returned to our "spot" after dinner, and I nailed a 2.7lb smallie on my first cast. I think that was the biggest smallmouth I've ever caught, then proceeded to catch two more that were almost the same size over the next 30 minutes. It was almost dark by then, so we left and set up to try for walleye again.
I used a #7 Shad Rap and my wife was using a round head jig with a dark gray curly tail grub. The weather was awesome and the lake was fairly quiet, I presume because everyone was at a lake that opened Saturday.
Sorry about no pictures, I forgot to take any until it was too late.
