Well, all this crappy weather has had me itching to get outside and find some good spring trout fishing. Most of the lakes nearby for me are stocked and do not open until the end of April...and the alpine lakes are still frozen over. I did notice this small lake on google maps while doing a little recon/daydreaming. I found very little information on it, except that the lake was once owned by a family in the early 1900's who used it as a private fish hatchery. That got me excited. So I got my ultra lite rod and a box of spinners and hiked up to give it a try. As soon as I got to the lake, seeing fishing rise all across the lake put an instant smile on my face. I was pinching myself for not bringing a float tube and fly rod! But I ended up with a couple beautiful Coastal Cutthroat, and one fat guy that came off right as I was about to pull him out of the water. I could have sworn it was at least 15 inches! Anyways, it was a blast to catch my first few trout of the year. If anyone in the Whatcom County area wants to know the lake, I might be willing to share if you PM me.
Tight lines!
