I finally got a chance to get out with my dad and hook into some Chinook on the upper portion of the Columbia. Thursday evening our first fish was a keeper hatchery super jack followed by a nice native we released. The bite came all at once. The fish must not have been too picky, because all 5 boats in the area hooked up with fish all within 5 minutes of each other. The next morning proved to be quite productive. We managed to land 5 out of seven fish by 9 am, but unfortunately all were wild and had to be released. Dad and I had a great time despite the fact we only came home with one. For this inlander there is nothing quite like the fight of a big Chinook.

Brad's Sea Hawk cut plug was the most effective for us on this trip run at 17' on the rigger. I was trolling faster than normal at 3-3.5 mph which proved to provoke strikes on this outing.

For those of you that want to get in on some summer salmon action its not too late. These fish can be found well into August and will retain their great meat quality all summer long. The bite is back on at Brewster and I have several dates available if anybody is interested. Feel free to give me a call if you have any questions.
