What a great day, got to fish with Captain Dave somewhere on the mighty Columbia. We met Friday evening hoping to get out and fish the evening bite for sockeye and Chinook. Only got out for a little while right before dark as the wind was howling. No Love.
Had to put down the camper jacks to stabilize the truck the wind was blowing so hard. We turned in and the wind subsided sometime during the night. Up at 5 AM and waited about 25 minutes to launch the boat. Dave put out the sockeye rigs amd we soon had the first takedown. I quickly landed it and the second rod went off and I got that one. The third rod went off and I almost had that one for a limit but a wave hit us and the sockeye played Houdini and escaped.
We switched to King (Chinook) gear and began the hunt for the summers first Chinook salmon to get the salmon stink on Captain Dave's boat: or is that to remove the skunk? Anyway it wasn't long before the salmon rod went off and things got interesting as other boats were around us. Managed not to lose it and it was a beautiful hatchery hen...yahooooo! Dave's boat is now ready for salmon season.
Cooked a sockeye on the pellet grill/smoker tonight for dinner....yum! Thanks Dave. The two filets on the right in the picture are sockeye and the one on the left is the king. Sure beautiful red meat.
Thanks again for a great fun time together Captain Dave. If any of you would like to book a trip he can be reached at (509) 939-6727
