this report is for lost lake near the everett pud( sultan river) diversion dam near sultan wa

i explored this for the first time solo, i started my hike in at 9:00 am i made it parallel to the lake on the gravel rd, but just couldn't find the trailhead, i looked for 15 mins gave up, and busted out my gps, and hacked my way through the vietnam like brush until i reached the lake,( dont try this) i arrived at 11:00 almost exactly, set up my 3 weight, and set up a plunking rig. my plunking rig was a free sliding 1/2oz casting sinker, with a red bead pegged with 4 ft of line left as leader, then a free sliding corky, then a hook, then 8"of line then another hook, both hooks baited with 1/2 worm. i first started with the fly rod, hoping not to resort to spinning/bait tactics, i casted and casted, changed flies, changed from floating to sink tip nada, so i casted my plunk rig for the first time, by now it was 12:30 i sat for 5 mins then tap tap, ohh crap! a bite! finally! set the hook, nada.. :/ i cast again same spot, nada for 15 minutes, i start telling my self " ok if no fish on the dock by 1:15 im heading back". so i reel my gear up and cast 40 ft to the right, immediately bite, hook set nada :( im getting irritated at this point, re cast same thing.. and again, then finally at 12:50 i hook up and its fish on! i bring in a beautiful 13 1/2" cutt :) looks like im going to stay a little longer after all, i cast again, as im getting fish #1 on the stringer, my rod tip dances, set the hook, fish on! a respectable 12'" cutt, cast again, just as im tying up my stringer with the fish on it, i see my line slack, i reel up the slack, fish on again, and landed. its now, 12:56, i went from 0 to 3 on the dock in 6 minutes. i cast again, i wait 5 minutes, bite and fish on again. landed another nice 13" cutt, the last fish came a little slower, but i limited out with my final 10" cutt at 1: 18pm and called it a day. i planned on leaving at 1:15 if no fish were caught, funny how that worked out lol. the fish had bright red meat like salmon, and were all hens oddly enough also, upon arriving at the lake, i found the trail and even a dock, provided by the snohomish sportsmens club and the everett pud, and the trail, which is extremely deceiving, the trailhead is about 1 miles past the lake, taking the correct trail literally added 2 miles to my return trip :/ also as a side note, i saw 1 coyote, 1 rabbit, 1 bald eagle, and 1 Gardner snake on the way to the lake, i also saw roughly 200 scat piles, mostly coyote scat, and 1 set of cougar tracks & scat near the lake. the coyote i saw was curious, and stood and watched me for a couple seconds, i snapped a pic on my phone, then i raised my arms shouted and charged it, it ran for its life. a wonderful memorable day in the pacific northwest.
