I hit my secret river again on Monday, I hooked one fish, but had it on just long enough to have it flop on top of the water, then come unhooked. My friend and I knew it was going to be a loonnnng coooolllllld day when we didn't hook any fish in the first few holes. It started snowing about 8am and flurried all day long. I broke off about 20lbs of ice off my eyes on my pole. Later in the day, my friend hooked (we Think) the same one twice, but lost it both times. It was a chrome hen about 6lbs. Then, at dark he caught a buck about 7lbs. that had a little color. Maybe with some rain the fish will come in thick.
My friend that I fished with today, showed me the river, I swore my secrecy to him. So, until he is too old to fish anymore, I won't tell anyone which river we fish. Also, in the pics you can sort of see the snow. The other pic is my set up for steel, other than when I use scent. I only use Mikes scent. I never use spilt shots on the line either. The bobbers are the cheapest I can find. Then, I don't mind if I lose a couple on the same snag. My hooks are more expensive then the bobbers($37 for 64 hooks).

The hooks look like they might be wide gap. I read an article about using wide vs. octopus.

Just a friendly tip, rub a little vasaline on your poles eyes to help prevent ice build up. Good luck.
