Okay, I know "secret" is taboo with some folks, but I just wanted to share some of the photos, and the methods. We targeted perch and crappie in mid to deep range, and along structure. Jiggy and Tluedeke joined me and the dogs on the 3-man (2 dog) pontoon, and we did okay till about 4 oclock. The fish decided we hadn't caught enough or big enough of them. Unfortunately, Tom had to leave by then, but the evening bite was on. I counted 67 fish from 10 oclock till 4, probably missing a few, and Tom breaking off a big something or other. Then we found the motherlode. We caught as many in 2 hours as we did all day. Part of the fun was we were field testing new designs and colors. Part of it was the sheer size of the fish. The big crappie was 19" and 2.7 lbs, with another close behind. The rest were in the pound and a half range from the evening bite. Using soft laundry bag "livewells," we were able to cull our way to a nice 18 fish 2 man take. Now, Jiggy showed me this spot, so I am not at liberty, by honor, to share. If he wishes to, he may. I simply will not spread the word on a pond or lake that someone shows me. Hope "Secret" didn't tick too many people off...
schu: Thanks, and I hope you and the others find your own secret, partly because I hope there are more out there!
tlue: Yeah, been there. Fished really tight to the structure, and it paid off. You literally had to splash the visible structure on your cast, or you wouldn't catch anything worthwhile. It was a pleasure fishing with you, as always (both times!).
Just noticed , I didn't share the method. Jiggy made up this new crappie worm in a new color, and boy did it work! As part of my field test, I used 5 rods, 3 with standard gear. The 2 rigged with the new stuff tore 'em up, with very little on standard gear. Fun when new stuff works. I think new works on big fish because they've learned the old stuff.
It's an amazing coincidence that our hunches paid off with such huge, quality fish Joe. Conditions changed through out the day and I wish Tom could've got in on that big fish action! I definately believe FC has something there , and that those big fish learned to avoid standard presentations and that led to the amazing success of my 3" Funky Worm Jigs...
Wow. 19". That is a *beast* of a crappie. You and Jiggy are geniuses. I thought of myself as an analytical dude, but you two put me to shame in terms of fishing.....
