I got a chance to hook up for a midweek over nighter fishing trip with my good friend and mentor for a fishing foray up North towards the Okanogan with Joe Schmidt a.k.a FishinChristian. This is my first posting featuring a secret lake location because the fishing was so good that we felt that the fishery needed to be protected. We set up camp and launched Joe's two man pontoon boat and proceeded to probe the cattail banks in search of crappie and bluegills with ultralite gear and 1/32 oz jigs. We had the pond all to ourselves and what transpired over the next half a day and folowing morning was really truly amazing. Joe and I hit the lunar bite predictions almost perfectly. The evening of the 1st turned in to a torrid bite for huge sunfish and crappie over a pound! I was amazed that Joe fished primarily with a Kalin's paddle grub that had the legs bitten off and he just slayed the big panfish with it as long as it was tipped with a worm. The Crappie moved up shallow as three feet as the day light drifted into evening and it was mayhem casting our jigs to actively feeding Bull sunfish and black crappie. All told, our tally was right around 125 panfish for the trip. We released most of the bull sunfish to fight again another day. Thanks again Joe for one of my best trips of the year! Jiggy
