There is a little lake we fish in the summer that produces some fat
largemouth so Mark H. and I thought we would see if we could catch any in the winter. We arrived about 8:30am, drilled some holes (ice was 8-10") and got to jigging. The skys were overcast and calm though a stiff breeze would kick up once in a while but only for a few minutes.
I used a swedish pimple & Mark used a 3/16 jig head, both tipped with worm. Half an hour in I have a nice little bass, maybe a pound. 10 minutes later my buddy lands one, a little bigger. Then nothing until about 1:00pm. The bite was slow and sporadic all day but we ended up with a number of perch and bluegill, 2 bass, and a crappie.
Mark did have something grab his jig hard enough to pull out the drag but unfortunately he must have been daydreaming because he missed it! Maybe next time. Not really anything to write home about but all in all, not a bad day on the ice.
