Fished Cassidy for the first time this year. I usually hit the lake around spawning time to try for those big hogs (bass). But unfortunately golf has taken a priority this year, also my wife said I am only allowed to choose to either fish or golf each week. But I always get my way so I did both. Hit the lake around 3:30, weather was pretty good, sun was out with a couple of clouds floating through. Launched my pontoon boat and started on the south side of the lake by the boat launch. My first couple of throws I caught a 12in fat bass. It was a good fight, and I was thinking, this is going to be a good day. After I released her, I moved my boat to another spot around one of the docks there, dropped my anchor and threw in. As soon as my 6in chartruse lizard hit the water, I watched my line start moving to the left. So I lowered my pole, reeled in a little slack and then wham, I jerked as hard as I could, and that big hog came out of the water, and my heart started racing. The first thing that came to mind was if she got rapped around anything, I would have to pull up my anchor with one hand and try not to horse the fish with the other. But with my surprise she jump again and that hook came un-done and almost hit me in the head, glad I have good reflexes, because this would have been a bad story. So I sat there for a second to get myself situated, and then remembered I don't have anywhere to put the fish if I decide to take them home, so I cut some rope from my anchor rope, tied it off and then I was ready. Moved to another spot, and there was a 4x4 pole with a bird house on top, so I wanted to cast right next to it. Threw in about 4 feet behind it in a little brush, flipped my pole once and it dropped so gently into the water, and immediately started taking slack, lowered my pole and jerked as hard as I could, and the fight was on once again. It was another good size fish, but she started heading for that darn pole. So now I was scared that she was going to rap herself around it and then again I would have to try to pull up my anchor with one hand etc.... But with my surpise, I believe I convinced her to come to my boat. (I kinda horsed around it) Finally got her to my boat and she was 17in, 2.5lb. She was nice. But I let her go. So that was my day. Looking forward to get there on the weekend to start in the morning. Until next time....
