Bunch of friends were having a get together on Lake Chelan this weekend so I got up early on Friday to get a little fishing in before the festivities. I have fished Chelan for Kokanee in the past but didn't really have the gear to go after Lake Trout till this year. After dragging my boat over the mountains, started fishing about 10 o'clock up at Willow Pt trolling towards Wopato Pt. Tried to keep the downrigger in between 180 and 230 feet of water and was using a U-20 Flatfish with some Herring scent. Ended up past Lake Chelan State Park just north of Minneapolis Beach having caught 2 smaller Lake Trout, 1 @17 inch, 1 @18 inch.
Weather was nice and there weren't too many people out fishing so it was kind of peaceful. Biggest problem I had was trying to drive the boat and keep the downrigger ball close to the bottom. All in all wasn't too bad a trip for my first serious effort at fishing for Lake trout.
