With part of the morning and afternoon free, I headed for the barrier dam. Its close and convenient and a spot you can catch a fish from time to time. I wasn't expecting the number of people I saw when I got there, especially since the run size dropped according to Tacoma City Lights fish report. After finding a spot I found out why. One guy in a boat just below the launch was into a nice coho, and I saw a few more on the bank. It wasn't too long before my turn came up. Fun fish with reel screaming runs and multiple flips. Got some nice eggs to. I do recommend bringing your patience, and expect a bit of crowding. One guy inadvertently took my spot as I was rerigging, and then had the decency to hook a big bright coho. Just the way things go. In the past I would get mad, but then I realized that just made my day of fishing not fun, and pretty much at the barrier dam, if there are fish and you find a spot to fish, somebody probably doesn't like you too well for the moment either. For me its more fun to just go with it and keep fishing. One other plus today: no snagged fish. Me or anyone else.
