This report actually covers the 1st and 2nd.. On both days, I was 1 for 2 fishing the same spot around the same time, the only difference was the lures I used. So, instead of repeating myself I'll just run through one of the days and comment the difference..
Headed to Allentown around 6:30AM and found the parking lot full (tried to get there at 6AM the next day and it was also full), so I drove off to Cecil Moses. Saw about 1/2 dozen guys floating/fly fishing the opposite bank with no luck during the hour I was there. I saw an occasional fish surface, but the tide was still high, but dropping. I threw a few spinners (pink and purple) with no luck.
I decided to hop in my car and work down river to the Boeing walking bridge. I was surprised to see only one bank fisherman as far as I could see while a dozen boats puttered through. I settled on a bank and started throwing a pink/white jig. About an hour in (2hrs before low tide), I got a hit. She went through the usual progression of running/rolling/jumping a couple times. I had her close to the bank and I started to bend over for the net and "snap", she was gone :( I upped my leader from 8lbs to 10lbs and quickly tied a hot pink jig and 15 min later, fish on! This one put up a hell of a fight running/rolling/jumping, but I was patient and I was a little more confident having up the leader line. She finally tired out and I had no problem netting her. She turned out to be close to 5lbs!
On the second day (same location around the same time), I had lost my first fish along with my last pink jig. Yes, I'm still a newbie and it was the same leader and jig I had tied on the previous day. I decided to be creative and put on a weighted float with a 4ft leader and a pink fly and what do you know, fish on! This one was much smaller, a little over 2lbs, and I was able to power her in..
Overall, this turned out to be an awesome weekend; caught fish and both the Huskies and Seahawks won!
Oh, one rant I want to make, It was really rude that one of the boats decided to anchor right in front of me when they saw me get my first hit. I could literally cast right into their boat with my 1/8 oz jig. I like to think I got the last laugh because I was able to bring a fish in on my second hit while they were skunked for the next hour and decided to move on...
