With the much anticipated news that the Snoho had opened a few days ago - I assumed that it'd be a good bet for smaller crowds down on the Duwamish instead.
Made it to the hole at about 6:20 with plenty of time before sunrise to sit in the car, listen to the radio and stay warm for a bit. I swear those were some of the longest 30 minutes I have ever had to sit and wait!
The bank was completely empty as I climbed down the hillside - the darkness just beginning to gain color and light as the sun started to peek over the horizon line.
It was just past high-tide and there was zero water activity. The fish didn't start rolling until at least around 7:45 or so and even then it was much fewer than I had been seeing in the evenings during the previous week.
My only hit of the day came at around 8:40 - a very chrome 6 pound hen violently grabbed my spinner and a lengthy fight ensued. She threw it into death roll mode just as I was bringing her up near shore and stripped some line off. I managed to play it back in and before I knew it I was bleeding out a very fresh COHO. Boy was that fun!
The rest of the morning consisted of more fish rolling, zero bites, and some snagged gear that was lost to the cause. By 10:30 the bite had really slowed and the outgoing tide was getting stronger, so I called it a day.
Two other bankies arrived near me throughout the morning. One guy was drifting with zero luck and the other was tossing spinners - also with zero luck.
I'm hoping that the SNOHO picks up by next weekend - I like the town and there's an awesome bakery out a few blocks from the boat launch.
tight lines!
