I had high hopes of waking up at the crack of dawn and driving down to Orting for the opener, but that did not happen. Instead, I arrived for the early evening bite, but it was a day of fishing, and not a day of catching.
Regardless, it was glorious to be able to wet a line in a river given the dismal river salmon opportunities we've been given this fall. Saw a fish roll every now and then (they seemed on the smaller side), but they were not in the mood to bite. I was tossing size 4 and size 5 spinners in everything from copper, to black, to pink, to purple. Counted about 10 other folks out today (which is about 9-10 more than I am used to seeing out on the Carbon), but didn't see anyone with a fish. Seems like some rain would be great, but with only 14 more days to enjoy this short salmon season, who knows.
Water was chalky green, and the river was basically as I remember leaving it last fall. Overall, nice to be back out.
