We were at it again up on the mighty PO targeting the smallmouth trying to duplicate what we did last week, but as you know, fishing changes daily! Even though the numbers were close, we only boated 5-6 quality fish. My white chatter bait with the white 5" curly tail grub was totally ineffective so I resorted to the pumpkin seed zoom trick worm Texas rigged with a 1/16oz slip sinker, this is what the Mrs. uses and she was out fishing me! She came prepared this outing with 2 wrist braces, these brutes put up quite the battle as she found out last week when she tweaked one of her wrists. We started out left of the Cusick launch along the pilings and boated 5 there, we met some nice folks that pulled up in a bass boat and shared some information. We then headed down to Usk under the bridge and caught nada, except some wind! Then headed down to the boulders in Dalkena and the sandy shoreline across from Davis and picked up nada, except for a nice lunch! So plan B, up to one of my favorite areas I like to fish during fall and it was money until the wind picked up and made boat control difficult. We even watched a snake eat a frog! You'll have to look close at the pic and see the frog's legs sticking out of it's mouth! Another great outing on the River!

Those pilings look so out of place, whats the history on them (if you're aware)? Nice smallies!!!

The mills in the early 1900's used water borne logs which needed a system of Boom sticks and "pilings" to store them and to guide them to the "Bull Chain" which hoisted them to the mill's saw deck. Probably the first pilings at Cusick were driven to serve a small sawmill and shingle cutting mill soon after the turn of the century.

ilv2fish. I saw some of your reports and just had to give the P.O. a try myself. Stayed at Blueslide and had a blast. Got my personal best SM and a couple of 4 lb LM, plus three bonus walleye right in front of the resort.......I'm hooked!

bogeyebe56, Congrats on your PB SM! We've launched from Blueslide a couple times but not yet this year. Some great fishing from there on up to Ione. There are some nice area's below Blueslide down to Riverbend too.

That's some neat history. Looks like those things go on for a long way and so close to the launch, might have to try it out on a calm day sometime (kayak fishing).
