We were visiting my parents in Skagit county, so I took a short fishing trip to the river. Since the rivers just recently reopened I thought that fishing would be good. Unfortunately the fish weren't very willing and there didn't seem to be a lot of them, though it's always hard for me to locate them since the holes are quite deep.

Anyways, I tried 3 or 4 spots, some of which very quite steep to get to and don't look like a lot of people fish there, but I only saw some whitefish and a bull trout. I had a small whitefish on the line but he fell off at the bank and the bull trout chased my lure several times and bit it once but didn't get hooked. I also saw a pretty big whitefish chase my lure a few times, but he never did bite.

I did find an amazing looking hole that I willl definitely try again. I also got spooked by a beaver who came out of the river right in front of me. That's the second time we've seen beavers on the Skagit.

Nice report CW. Were you downriver from where the Baker drains into the Skagit? I plan to fish the Skagit soon (((Fish On)))

No actually we were far upriver from there. It's catch and release now on the upper sections, but it's beautiful up there.
