Headed up to Flaming Geyser SP today with the lightweight setup to try and hook some whitefish today, before the upcoming rains change up the river. I started out at the parking lot hole, and eventually worked my way up to the corner pool. No luck with my presentation. I was switching it up between Powerbait maggots and single salmon eggs on a #10 hook, with a split shot about a foot up.
There was another guy fishing at the parking lot hole while I was there, and he was hooking whitefish left and right. Clearly, he found a good school of them. I was secretly hoping he would have vacated his spot by the time I got back from working upriver, but he seemed to have actually called in a friend to join in on the action! I'll be back another day to try that spot.
Hopefully the WDFW opens up the upper river to fishing soon, but who knows.
It was a beautiful clear and cold day to be out here. I'll take this skunk on a supposedly easy to catch fish, over any day not being out fishing. The Green Valley road is also a nice drive, although it was quite icy in spots along the way.
