Day 3 of Ed Iman’s Fish Camp saw us fishing with Jeff Geary’s Guide Service (509-369-2287). Jeff is a local who has fished the Klickitat river all his life. As such, he knows the river like his back yard, which it is. Aaron and I were excited to be getting off the Big C and instead fish in a driftboat and enjoy a peaceful drift down the Klickitat. Our target – what else? Chinook Salmon. The river was muddy on Monday but Jeff informed us today it had been improving day by day and today was looking really good. He was excited to get us on the river and fishing.

We did a three mile drift from upriver of the town of Klickitat, taking out in the town launch area. Jeff fished us predominately with eggs/shrimp and a spin n glow off of a diver. Our first hole Aaron hooked up within five minutes of starting, doing a great job of landing a 10 pound or so chinook. The fish are in great shape, a little colored up, but cut a nice red color flesh.

We worked our way down through some prime holes Jeff knows about. I was impressed with his driftboat handling skills. Several times he placed us into small seams that had been ignored by other boats, and in most cases we were rewarded with a takedown. My fish came mid-morning, and it was a dandy, 18 pounds. The fish made some great runs and head shakes but we were able to get him in the boat.

After that fish we got into some “catching “issues, hook-ups came steady and each hole we had take downs, but our success in getting them to the net ended. We had so many fish come unbuttoned! We ended our day 2 for 12 (that makes me cringe to even type it). None-the-less, it was a geat day on the water and Jeff is a first rate guide. We had a blast with him. If you get a chance give him a call and get a trip booked. The chinook will be good for several more weeks.

Rating on "4" based on our multiple hook-ups, not fish in the boat.

One more day of our Fish Camp adventures to go!
