Fished below the train bridge in Burlington today from dawn (4:30ish) to 8:30. Used live sand shrimp behind a #6 pink/chartreuse tiger stripe spin-n-glow (with the purple-ish mylar wings), rigged with a double-hook setup. The river looked gorgeous, but nothing was happening for me. I did see a nice wild chinook released farther down the bank, and a small dolly released upstream of me, but that was the only action on the gravel bar between about a dozen rods. No jumpers to be seen or heard. It's pretty easy fishing though, I think I'll probably be out there every morning before work until I figure it out.

There's not much to figure out. Plunk the river and they will come. I have participated both years the river opened for sockeye and caught both years and if the fish arent there no one will catch. That being said give it a week or so.also. 430-830 isn't really long enough especially if you are not catching right away. Last year some of us waited from 4am until 3pm to catch our limit of 2 fish. Also these sockeye are not jumpers so don't expect a lot of activity from them. These fish do not stop they rush straight to baker river and only way to catch them is being there at the right time as a school passes by. Its not unusual to see multiple hookups with these fish. So there will be no fish seen until someone actually hooks up. If a sockeye jumps he's been hooked.

I have been looking at the rules and the area that retention is allowed but I am wondering how one accesses it? Just wondering. It is a very far drive for me but I would like to at least give it a try.
