Fished the Cowlitz river today a chilly start of 33 degrees with 4 guys and a 16 year old young man about to catch his first and soon to be hard to ever beat 18lb hatchery steelhead.
The water was cold at 44.5 the weather colder at 33 and water flowing at 4,000 CFSwith unlimited visibility.
The fish wanted smaller presentations today as I was to soon find out.
We launched at Blue Creek at 7 and off we were to the lower holes we side drifted all day with eggs and once it warmed up a few degrees we were in to what would be a fish of a lifetime for a young man fishing with his father and uncles. No pressure here! He did great and after several jumps and screaming runs almost 30 minutes had gone by and we slid a 18lb hatchery buck into the net and the cheers and screams commenced.
We got into 5 fish today landing 3 but we had a great time.
Fishing the Columbia River, Cowlitz River, Chehalis River, Wind River, Drano Lake, and Lake Merwin for salmon, steelhead, and kokanee.
