My partner and I launched at White bridge at lite. Tons of boats on the water and hoards of bank anglers along the way and it was hard finding any open holes without crowding out a fellow fisherman. Since I've only caught 2 steelhead before today and this was my partners first time targeting SH.
We were about 1/2 way to Black Creek and found a little drift to pitch some eggs. A few minutes later a bank angler yelled over to ask if we had a tape measure and I did so rowed to shore. He had a very nice brute of a buck. The day before I just picked up a scale/tape. Fish was 14.4 and 36in. Nice fish.
We talked for some time and he gave us a few pointers. He pointed across the river to a nice piece of plug water and he said everybody seems to miss that little piece of water. We rowed across the water and it took a few minutes to get everything set just right in the current. It wasn't 5 minutes and POW! I don't know why, but my partner grabbed the pole and passed it to me, although I wanted him to take the first fish. After a few minutes of confusion, got the fish in the net as the plug line broke off.
We thanked our fishing Angel friend and went on to finish our trip without another pickup. Pressure with boats and bank guys was very very heavy. We noticed some fish being boated but I'm sure that the amount of traffic and lower water, the fish very weary by the end of the day.
Had a great time with my fishing buddy, talked with some good guys on the river, and enjoyed the scenery.
