I decided to hit the Carbon with the kid, we walked up the river, to where the river meets the trail right below the hatchery. After the last high water, the hole right at the Voight creek changed. The best water is where the trail and the river meet. I had the kid start in a nice hole. I went up to take a look at the river above him. I was hoping he would stay fishing there. He decided to move up to where I was. I asked why he moved. He said he didn't think there was fish. I told him "now I'm gonna catch your fish". On my second cast my bobber dropped and a nice chum came out of the water. After a good fight and a couple pics, I released the fish. That was the freshest chum I caught all year. I think my son learned to stay in a good hole if I think it is nice.
We fished that spot a little more then moved down to the next hole. I was working my way down and saw my bobber drop again and set, I felt some head shaking and saw the fish roll. It was about 3 lbs or so and started running up the river pulling drag. I just barely got a look at it then it came off. I think it was a nice size dollie, but will never know. We fished the rest of that hole then had to leave. The kid never hooked any.
We only fished for about 1.5 hrs. There was a lot of nice water that we had to pass but I had to be back so the wife could leave. The river is open until tomorrow and is selective gear rules catch and release except up to 2 hatchery steelhead. I'm just glad I got any action at all. I think I was using a size number 2 aero jig and was using 8lb test on a 10.5 ft 4 to 8 lb spinning rod so that chum was extra fun.

I uploaded a video of the chum, on you tube. search "late chum carbon" or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOsXqic-lO0
