What a day. Picked up 6 nice Coho a couple days before the season ended.
My friend Tony and his 10 year old daughter Megan for her first salmon trip. went along. On the way down from Oakville launch we stopped to help Megan get used to casting and reeling. As we went from hole to hole, her casting got better for a 10yr old girl.
We stopped at a hole down from Oakville and the action turned on. We picked up 5 fish in about 40 minutes. I hit first with a nice 10-12 chrome, but turned the pole right over to Megan. Her dad held the rod so it was up. She finally got it in the net. Tony hit the next two fish from the same anchor spot within 10 minutes.
I was still looking for my first fish so we pulled anchor and moved about 40 feet. We started casting and within a minute or two, Megan's pole bounced, then pointed straight to the line in the water with the drag zinging off. Tony reached over and held the rod so the tip was up and the fight was on. This fish came out of the water 2-3 times and just peeled line. Megan was finally able to get it to the boat and I slid a net under it. Wow! A Beast and her first salmon. One of the biggest Coho I've ever had in my boat. She casted, caught it, reeled it in, and got it in the net by herself. What a FisherGirl.
After things settled down I made a cast and POW. Nice Chromer. We could have gotten our last fish here, but had a long drift to go, so went down a few holes and I picked up number 6 to finish a great day and limits on the river. Off the river at noon.
Happy New Year and God Bless.
