I had shoulder surgery last Tuesday and was feeling just well enough to try my first trip to the Sky for winter steel. Got to the river around 7 am and started working a spot that was always good to me in the past. The wind was forecast to be not much and variable with gusts to 10mph.....Not!!!!! There was a steady 10 - 15mph wind with gusts to 20 - 25 which is a huge pain when fishing float and jigs as everyone knows. Saw a few fish caught around me but I was not feeling confident. I moved a couple times and changed things up but still no love. The wind went from a total pain in the ass to just annoying gusts so I went back pretty much to where I started and tried casting in the middle of the gusts hoping that the float would fish better once it landed. It worked somewhat and I hooked and landed a decent hatchery buck. I had another bobber down but it was in the middle of a gust and by the time I reeled up the slack all I got was a head shake and goodbye. Oh well. Then I noticed that my float had cracked and was slowly filling up with water so I decided to call it a day and protect the shoulder. Tight lines!
