This is a late report for last Saturday. After running into 4steelhead below the hiway on the Wallace we fished the hole just below the hiway and another hole further down. I have not caught any Coho this year in these holes which usually produce very well for me. We then headed up to the hatchery for a look in the adult holding pen which has quite a number of fish in it. A week or so ago I saw Steelhead in the holding pen.
We then headed down to the river to see what was happening down there and to find a biter or two. The Cedar hole was full so we continued down to the May Creek hole to find two other fishermen there with just enough room for us to join them. My first cast floating eggs got me a take down at the tail out. I was at the top of the hole so I walked down to get out of the way as I fought the fish. This fish fought well and wrapped the line around herself This was a decent sized (10LB+) Hen which was in decent shape, good enough for my smoker. As I pulled her up onto the gravel bar she flopped around and was half in and half out of the water when my leader broke and off she went. I did land the hen in the picture a while later on jig with shrimp. She was not as big as the first but she was full eggs and the meat wasn't bad at all. Looking forward to Steelhead as this has been a dismal Coho year for me. Tight Lines to all but the snaggers!
