Took my nephew out on a guided trip with Nate from Nate Treat Fishing. Nate was out the day before and had a pretty good day given the conditions and even landed a 20 lb coho so I was hopeful that we would luck out as well even though the Humptulips was running really low and clear.
Turned out to be a real tough day, even frustrating at times when we could see large schools of fish that were completely lock jawed at everything at we threw at time. We hooked a small native Coho early in the day but that was about it. Finally towards the end of the day Nate brought us to the same hole they landed the 20 pounder in the day before and it was game on. It was literally bite after bite with some huge fish that took us straight into the logs and either broke off, bent our 4/0 hooks or threw the barbless hooks in some fashion or another while we were caught in other lost terminal gear within the hole. Normally I'd say that was pretty frustrating experience but given the day we had earlier this was a blast. We finally landed two nice sized Cohos (~8 and ~10 lbs) and lost probably another 8-10 fish in the hole including a nice King.
Our trip was saved when we got to wrestle some pretty large fish in that hole and while we didn't land them all it still made up for a pretty crappy fishing day early on. Nate did a great job of showing us around and doing his best to put us on some fish in some really tough conditions. Fortunately for us we finally hit the perfect hole in those conditions and had a blast to end the day.
