Went to the Quilcene this morning expecting to catch my four and be gone by noon, boy was I wrong. I was there from 6 to 11 hopping from spot to spot on the Q. The mouth, Rogers Street, the Highway 101 bridge, none of these places had fish, not even chum or cutts. I only saw 1 fish by the bridge you cross to get to the Rogers Street hole. Even the workers at the hatchery said they were worried. The only jumping schools I saw were about 150 yards offshore of the marina in the bay. Looked like a school of about 1000 or 2000 maybe, a lot of fish. Hopefully those fish will push up into the Quilcene with the incoming rains. Will definitely be there on Friday after the Seahawks game. Maybe camp out at by the community center by a day? Anyways good luck! Everyone do the rain dance!

I'm worried as well. Have been fishing the water between the Hood Canal Bridge and Foulweather Bluff for the past week and have only caught one coho. I'm hoping the fish are super late and that we have a phenomenal September.

I was out there too and saw nothing. Walked all the way to the Clay Banks from 101, only saw 1 fish. Things aren't looking too good, but it's still a little too early to tell.

I find it funny how all these people are freaking out there are no fish right now, I never start hitting it til a week after the opener and never have to start worrying til September but I do remember in 2010 or 2011 they closed the river early since there were no fish coming in so this year might be the run coming from that run so I think everyone should not fish quilcene this year and just keep fishing the puke and gorst lol

thanks for the informative report. Low tide was at 5:57 a.m. and high was at 1:25 p.m. that said ,last year i was walking out after the same disappointing circumstances, and was told by a guy who was on his way IN that we were crazy to be leaving. Because the river is so low the fish are pushing through after the tide change. we couldn't stick around any longer to see if they came in or not. Bonker is right, a little too early to start worrying.I just hope that when it does rain, it doesn't come all at once punching all the rivers causing the fish to push through all at once! I hate when that happens.makes for a very short season.

just got off the phone with the hatchery. when counted on the 15th there were 50 adult coho in the pen. today there are now 150 in the pen. so they are trickling in slowly and discreetly.

last year we had rain on the 23rd I believe and there was a huge push that came in that day but they still were coming in after that just seem like they started holding more by linger longer after that
